The Silent Host: Forgefiend - Taharqa, Baring Fangs

The Forgefiend Taharqa is a fearsome sight. Jaws locked open in a constant grimace, fearsome autocannon scything down enemy troops, immolating tanks with jets of ectoplasmic energy vomited from its internal furnace, Taharqa stalks catlike across the battlefield. Woe unto the mouse.

I didn't take in-progress pictures for this model, as I'm trying a different approach. Additionally, I'd like to note the recurrence of my color philosophy. Black is a color reserved for units which were present at the Burning of Prospero. All Forgefiends postdate the Horus Heresy, and thus, Taharqa does not wear black.

The primary challenge when painting a model like this is deciding what color you're going to be using the most of. That's USUALLY the color you want to lay down first. In Taharqa's case, that color was silver. Seriously. So much silver.

After that it's mostly a question of carefully blocking in your other colors - the blues, the copper, the flesh, etc.

The great thing about big models like this is that while there's a lot of detail, it's LARGE detail. Meaning it's much easier to paint than you'd think. I'd rather paint a dozen Forgefiends than a dozen Rubric Marines -- Rubric Marines have a similar level of detail, but packed into a model 1/10th the size. Anyway, here's the paints I used.
