But I just can't quite get it to work... Anyway, let's talk about video games. That's always fun. And by fun, I mean it wildly swings between fun and painful. Often painful. Usually painful.
I should probably have gone to my college's homecoming--my first one as an alum!--but I'm lazy and didn't feel like leaving my apartment. Also it's like an hour and a half drive each way and I'm going down there next week. So yeah. I don't know why I'm telling you this, all eight of you faithful readers.
Captain America and the Avengers
This game…This game makes Batman Returns and Alien Vs. Predator look like smooth pieces of art. First off, of ALL the Avengers, you pick Iron Man, Captain America, Hawkeye, and…VISION? You were doing okay with the first two, but…HAWKEYE AND VISION? WHY? Why not Hulk? Why not Spiderman? Why not Black Widow? Why not Dr. Strange? OR ANYONE ELSE? The controls are awful, even compared to AVP. Everyone moves slow and clunkily, attacks take forever. It’s like watching a kid play with action figures. Except that would be fun and charming. Also, the muffled clip that plays every time you take damage? ARGH. MY EARS.
Castlevania: Dracula X
Dang. This is gorgeous. Dracula X uses that one SNES graphics deal that allows for moving backgrounds and it’s amazing. Animations and landscapes look so lush. Castlevania has always been great with these Gothic landscapes, and Dracula X has taken another step in improving it. I’m a bit disappointed by the sound, though. It feels a bit too modern: Electric guitars and stuff. It’s still great, just not as good. Controls are…well, couldn’t I move just a LITTLE faster? And some of the jumps require you to practically walk off the ledge. Despite all that, combat is good. Even if the super moves for secondary weapons remind me of DragonBall or something.
Contra 3: The Alien Wars
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH SO MANY GUNS! TACTICAL NUKES! ALIENS! PLATFORMING! GRAPHICS! PEW PEW NOISES! IT’S AN ORGY OF EXCESS AND EXPLOSIONS! MURRICA!
