Backlog Blitz: SNES, Week Twelve, "Indiana Was the Pink Fluffball's Name..."

I never have been good at titles for these blogs... Are there classes on writing good titles? Is that a thing? It should be a thing. I would attend. Anyway. It has...it has been a long week. I say that every week. But this week... I'm barely awake right now and it's post-noon. I've been up for five hours. The only thing that's keeping me awake is the promise of the delicious-smelling Jamaican chicken soup on the stove... Anyway. Old games. Let's talk about them.

Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures

Actually really fun. Graphics and sound are solid, the platforming is reasonably fluid... this is by far the best Indiana Jones game I've played thus far. It's basically Castlevania with an Indiana Jones skin. Which is a good thing.

JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings

Right off? This music is excellent. Really great. In contrast, the graphics are pretty bad. They're just... overly cartoony? The combat and controls are very much like Legend of Zelda, only quite clunky. It's just not fluid at all. Like controlling a tank. I'm not a fan. It's just not...fun. Again, though. Bloody amazing music. Shame the game sucks.

Killer Instinct

This game lets me play as a velociraptor. I like it. The combat isn't amazing. It feels a bit clunky, but it's still pretty dang fun. I feel like this is supposed to be a Mortal Kombat ripoff but it doesn't feel nearly as gruesome. Oh well. Lots of fun anyway.

Kirby's Avalanche

Dr. Mario, but with WAY more dead blocks dropped to impede your play. Seriously. I had twice the score of my AI opponent, and it was still dropping 3-5 dead blocks on me every 20 seconds. It's ridiculous. Overall, this just isn't as fun as Dr. Mario. Sorry.

Kirby's Dream Course

So this is golf crossed with billiards crossed with pinball, with Kirby as the billiard ball and I love it. It's very tactical and yet also feels arcadey

Kirby's Dreamland 3

This is cute and basically unloseable. Babby's first platformer, basically. It's still quite fun, just not hard. Also, the art style is great.

Kirby's Super Star

This is perhaps one of my favorite Super Nintendo titles. I put so many hours into this and Super Mario All-Stars... Seriously, though. The games are all incredibly fun, varied... It's actually a bit like Super Smash Brothers Brawl in a way. There's weird little minigames (props to Samurai Kirby and Megaton Punch!) a full campaign mode, some shorter games... It's a ton of fun. Graphics, sound, and controls are all quite polished.
