Backlog Blitz: SNES, Week Eighteen, "Tactical Ogre Clinging"

It's the end of an era. No, really. I've finished playing Super Nintendo games. I have no more ROMs to play. My emulator can rest in peace now. What's next? A short, one or two week hiatus. Then on to the system that does what Nintendon't. SEGAAAAAAAAA~ But for now, let's look at some more old games.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

I like games that start with open-ended questions and make you choose options like Hatred or Sacrifice or Love. It just really makes the writer part of me happy for some reason. So the graphics are pretty solid, the sound is pretty solid, and combat, well, this is basically a Fire Emblem style game. That's where it falls within my sphere of knowledge, that's what I recognize it as. And it's not too bad. In fact, it's quite...good.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4

What's this? A TMNT sidescrolling beat-em-up that isn't awful? Where the combat is moderately fluid, the movement isn't clunky, and it's actually FUN? GASP! Yep, this is actually decent. Graphics are solid, music is alright, gameplay is...fun.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighter

I don't know man.... It's like a really terrible Street Fighter knockoff, and it's terrible. Only five of the characters (The Turtles and Shredder) are recognizably from the TMNT show--(Seriously, no Bebop or Rocksteady?) The combat is average at best, the graphics are average at best, the sound is terrible. It's not...It's not that good, man.

Terminator 2

This is, quite possibly, the worst game I have ever played. Sub-NES-quality graphics, atrocious controls, abominable music, abortive gameplay. -10/10 stars. LJN is the polio of early video games.

Uncharted Waters

So this is the anime version of Pirates!, the amazing piratical NES game. And it has worse graphics, worse sailing, worse everything. BAH. HUMBUG. ARRR.

Wild Guns

So this is a Western arcade shooter? It's...a  bit weird...but not bad. Not bad at all. Graphics are solid, music is solid, controls are fine, shooting is good... There are robots in the Wild West, which... Okay?

Wolfenstein 3D

Look, I'm sorry. I love Wolfenstein, but this doesn't look good, it doesn't play good, and it doesn't sound good. It's overall a pretty terrible port that doesn't have the fluidity of the PC version.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors!

A really fun top-down shooter! I like it. Graphics are decent, sound is good, controls are good... I approve.
